About My Project

I'm Erica Melkonian. I'm 16 and entering my junior year at Waterford Kettering High School. I've always loved reading, and I grew up with the Harry Potter books. I've been reading them since first grade, and I've seen the last two movies at the midnight showings. To put it simply: I love Harry Potter and I always will. The characters grew up with me, and that's something I've always been really thankful to JKR for. Unfortunately, I got sucked into the Twilight vortex during my freshman year. I read all of the books in about a week, but the last one completely ruined the entire series for me. I hated how the saga came to a close, and then I slowly came to realize that all of the books were complete crap. Then, just to make sure, I went to reread the series (I reread books quite often, but usually it's because I love them) and I realized it was a complete waste of paper and time. I couldn't get through the first book and I stopped reading. Which I never do. I was disappointed in myself, not for having given up on the saga, but for actually enjoying it in the first place. I'm 99.9% sure that the only reason I ever liked Twilight was because I believed that Edward was a great guy and I wanted him and Bella to end up together. Now I've completely changed my mind.

At the end of my sophomore year, I received my summer assignment for AP Language Arts (which I'm taking this year). I chose to write a book entitled Wizards vs. Vampires. The first half of which will unveil the genius behind the wizarding world of Harry Potter, and the second will explain why Twilight is an utter failure. I have been researching myths and legends and European history and scientific discoveries and about a million other things I hope will prove useful while writing. I will reread both series of books, but this time I will be combing through each quite thoroughly in order to find errors in the texts and applaud every clever plot point, etc. And then I'll write :)
